TMC Birthday Party & Showcase

Saturday, Sept. 11
Wetmore Smokehouse
13525 Wetmore Rd.

The Texas Music Coalition will mark its 12th anniversary of serving the area music community with its annual TMC Birthday Party & Showcase. This year’s event takes place indoors at the Wetmore Smokehouse, 13525 Wetmore Rd., on Saturday, Sept. 11, from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., and offers an opportunity for members and the public to turn out to listen to a wide range of TMC performing artists.

Our entertainment line-up includes: Alan Fisher, The Ashley Dixon Band, Race Villarreal with Real Me, Rusty Padier, Stefano, Sean Palen and Eric Morris with Burning Nopal.

Since this year’s event will take place on the anniversary of 9/11, those performing are being asked to include a song that is patriotic or promotes peace and the brotherhood of man in their set. This will be reminiscent of TMC’s 3rd Birthday Party, held at the original Casbeers, which wound up being the week following Sept. 11, 2001.

We had an acoustic open mic as entertainment that night, led by “Barefoot” Larry Collins, and performers spontaneously got up and played such songs as “America the Beautiful,” “God Bless America” and “This Land Is Your Land.” A guitarist (name unknown) did an instrumental solo of “The Star Spangled Banner” that had the room so still you could have heard a pin drop.

As always, this year’s birthday celebration will feature the traditional TMC birthday cake, balloons and presentation of the Texas Music Month proclamations from the city of San Antonio and the governor's office in Austin, proclaiming the upcoming month of October as Texas Music Month. We are hoping that a member of City Council will again be our honored guest to make this presentation.

Chairing this always-fun event are Quinn and Ashley Dixon. Check www.texasmusiccoalition.org for updates. For info on the Wetmore Smokehouse, visit www.wetmoresmokehouse.com or call (210) 490-7330.

For a review of TMC’s past birthday celebrations over the years, see our website story under “Past TMC News” – TMC “HAPPY BIRTHDAYS” THROUGH THE YEARS.
