The last in our series of panels to celebrate Texas Music Month was a biggie and packed the seats at Sam Ash Music! Discussed were booking and band behavior! Our panel includes: Kassie Green of Backstage Live and Tequila Rock Bar; Toni Torres from The Edge magazine and Zombies Bar; and Dee Gonzaba from Deemand Entertainment. Sam Ash's in-store open mic followed, with participants receiving Sam Ash Gift Cards.

Attendees learned how to get their press kits done right from Toni Torres of the Edge Magazine and Zombies Bar and professional photographers Rey Gonzalez (Creative Edge Photography) and John David Scarcliff (Scarcliff Photography). A mini fashion show for band members was presented by Visible Changes, who had free gifts for everyone. Afterwards, Deemand entertainment hosted an open mic.
TMC Texas Music Month Sound Panel, Fitzgerald's, Oct. 3, 2012 “Things That Tick Off A Sound Man,” our kick-off event for Texas Music Month discussed what you can do to make your show even better! Our distinguished panel included: Winston Martin, sound man extraordinaire at Fitzgerald's; David Work Sr., sound engineer; Ray (Razor) Reyes, back line specialist at Matriarch Productions and guitar player for Marion Shiver; Mark Gonzaba, sound engineer for Deemand Entertainment and drummer for Dround and Harmsway. Gabriel Lara of JSP Entertainment served as moderator. Open mic followed. with backline be provided by Ray Reyes (guitar amp, drums, bass rig and keyboard).
TMC 14th Birthday Party Showcase, Tycoon Flats, Sept. 30, 2012 We had had great weather, a great venue and a great music line-up for TMC’s 14th Birthday Party &Showcase on Sunday, Sept. 30, 5-10 p.m., at Tycoon Flats, 2926 N. Saint Mary's! As promised the rain was long gone by then and the beautiful fall weather under the trees outside was fantastic!
Our line-up included: Paul “Red” & Lana Dvorak, Tom William’s Texas Groove, Bobby Baker & the Longnecks, Katherine Dawn & the Texas LadyBugs, Festus & Malarkey (Doug Fesler) and John Cockerell with new TMC member Bill Lieber. Ron Young & C.J. Troilo, who graciously gave up their place to the Texas Lady Bugs, when the schedule was running late, will be performing at TMC’s Holiday Party in December instead.
Songbird Katherine Dawn led the singing of the birthday song for TMC and lit the 14 candles on the cake.
City Councilman Rey Saldana was unable to make it due to a last-minute emergency and called with his regrets, so reading of the October state Texas Music Month proclamation (signed by Governor Rick Perry) and the city one (signed by Mayor Julian Castro) was done by TMC President Joel Williams, after which TMC members and band members posed for a group picture.
S.A. Express-News Photographer Leland Outz dropped by and took a bunch of photos, which ran in Sunday’s Alamo City Scene photos section in the Star Magazine in the San Antonio Express & News!

Symphony) and Richard Oppenheim (saxophonist) of the Musicians’ Society of San Antonio, AFM Local 23,; and music educator Elena Funk.
TMC Meet & Greet, July 17, 2012 at Big Bob's Burgers TMC's 13th annual Meet & Greet took place on Saturday, July 17, at Big Bob's Burgers, with Oscar Laun as DJ. TMC Jack Skiles Music Studies Scholarship winners were announced as: 1st place ($1,000), Jonathan Norris and 2nd place ($500), Erik Anderson. Winner of the Fred Weiss Memorial Music Grant for Professional Development ($250)was announced as Krystal Clark. This event also served as the CD Releae Party for the TMC Collaboration CD, a compilation of oriignal songs written and performed by TMC members Donna Baxter, Paul "Red" Dvorak, Alan Fisher, Phil Flood, Maria Larson and Carol Sowa.

TMC Singer/Songwriters Program - Feb. 21, 2012 at Olmos Bharmacy The Texas Music Coalition’s (TMC) program on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at the Olmos Bharmacy featured 10 TMC singer/songwriters each performing one of their original songs and sharing with attendees what inspired them to write the song, as well as other aspects of its creation. Performing were Joel Williams, Sean Palen, Oscar Laun, Race Villarreal, Maria Larson, Doug Fesler, Bob Laxson, Gerald Gloria, EZ Night and Tom Griffith. This was followed by Butch Morgan’s open mic.
TMC "Getting Special Gigs" Panel, Jan. 17, 2012 at Olmos Bharmacy Panelists included Henry Brun, involved with booking Market Square and other city events; Rudi Harst who books bands for the King William Fair during Fiesta; and Maritza Quiroz with the CE Group, who books bands for the Rock N Roll Maratho. TMC Music Video Showcase - Nov. 16, 2010 at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, Park North TMC's Music Video Showcase on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, Park North, packed their Theatre #4, with extra chairs having to be brought in for the overflow. Attendees viewed 22 music videos culled from 50 entries nation-wide and from Mexico, with balloting at the end of the evening determining the winners. TMC member Laura Marie was voted "Best Song" for her "Love You Like Me" video, which was produced and recorded by TMC member and former president, Mack Damon. Voted "Best Video" was Rod Guajardo's production for Josh Glenn's "Vulnerable Minds." Chairing this event was TMC member Nikki Young of PrimaDonna Productions, assisted by Lee Hurtado and Chadd Green.

Katherine Dawn was announced as 2010 TMC Artist of the Year, with Laura Marie and Bobby Baker honored as finalists. Texas Music Month: Oct. 19, 2010 - TMC partnered with San Antonio School for Inquiry & Creativity For our 3rd Texas Music Month event, TMC partnered with SASIC -- San Antonio School for Inquiry & Creativity for a tour of their facilities, including a professional recording studio and film making department, followed by musical entertainment by SASIC students.

Our first event for Texas Music Month 2010 included a tour of SAC's RTVF facilities by Music Business Program Coordinator Donnie Meals, who gave info on the RTVF Dept., the Music Business Program, KSYM and how to get your songs played there, followed by word from local and state representatives of Grammy U, who explained their relationship with the Recording Academy. Panelists included: BILL ANGELINI of Bill Angelini Enterprises, who books a variety of talent (Americana, Country, Tejano, Rock, etc.) at fairs, festivals and small events; TINA STURCHIO of Sturchio Entertainment, whose company chiefly books talent for corporate events and private parties, such as weddings; and DEE GUILLEMETTE of Deemand Entertainment, whose company primarily books rock bands at various venues and events. Special guest AL STURCHIO was also on hand.
ChildSafe Benefit Show, Aug. 15, 2009 TMC members provided the music for the ChildSafe Benefit at the Carousal Shopping Center, Aug. 15, 09. The ChildSafe Organization provides hope and healing for sexually abused children in and around San Antonio, Texas.
ChildSafe Director, Melanie Cawthon, was overwhelmed with joy at the success of the event. They received school supplies and other needed items as well as about $2,000 in cash donations.
TMC artists performing included: Laura Marie, Maria Larson, Bobby Baker, Ashley Dixon, Alan Fisher, Katherine Dawn, Ginger Pickett, Tom Williams and his band including Eddie Puente-snare drum, Alex Esquivel-bass and Terri Inman providing harmonies. A TMC Super Texas Thanks to Daryl Archuleta and Steve Salazar of Confusing Minerva for supplying the sound and performing. TMC member Alexis Anthony had two students Maggie Parkman and Alexis Pietra joining the group. Gracie Reyes, an employee at one of the shops was a walk-on performer providing some Salsa.
It was a warm day but in the end it left all of us with a warm heart. Thanks to all.
July 21, 2009 "How to Get Gigs" Panel at The Cove. The Texas Music Coalition’s free panel on Tuesday, July 21, focused on how to get “Special Event Gigs” and took place at The Cove, 606 W. Cypress.
Panelists included: Marisela Barrera, Program Coordinator for the Main Plaza Conservancy, who books bands for a variety of exciting music events on Main Plaza; Rudy Jones, who assists with the Houston Street Festival and had information on the Kerrville Folk Festival; and Henry Brun of the Latin Playerz, veteran of many city and Fiesta events. We had a record turn-out!
TMC Meet & Greet, June 28, 2009, at Taco Garage (MORE PHOTOS ADDED!) TMC held their 10th annual Meet & Greet on Sunday, June 28, at Taco Garage, where DJ Joe Barfield played music brought by local musicains. Winner of the $500 TMC Jack Skiles Music Studies Scholarship was announced as being Marcus Tedesco. The $250 scholarship was won by Steve Sellers Jr., and third place winner. Marcus DeLeon, received a free one-year membership in TMC, as did the other two winners and their mentors: Steve Zeserman and Steven O. Sellers, respectively.

TMC AT TEXAS MUSIC AWARDS, PALESTINE, TX, APRIL 26, 2009 TMC members and guests traveled to the 7th annual Texas Music Awards in Palestine, Texas, on Sunday, April 26. Immediately following the awards, attendees were treated to a private concert by awards host, Micahel Martin Murphey and a reunion of his early Cosmic Cowboy Band. TMC Publicity/Promotion Panel - March 17, 2009 @ The Cove TMC's publicity panel on Tuesday, March 17, at The Cove, panelists provided tips on how to publicize and promote your band or act, with Joel Williams of PR firm Dublin & Associates serving as moderator.
Panelists included: Michele Krier of Texas Public Radio (whose bookings have included acts for The Tonight Show); Nikki Young of PrimaDonna Productions (responsible for marketing many area bands/artists); Jeremy Martin, music editor for the San Antonio Current; and Rose Marie Eash, of Dublin & Associates (who has publicized a number of regional artists, as well as Gruene Hall). An open mic was held prior to the panel.

Rodeo Booking Panel - Jan. 20, 2009 For the Texas Music Coalition’s program on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Tycoon Flats, 2926 N. St. Mary's, Debbie Dreyfus-Schronk, COO; Jackie Van De Walle, Assistant Vice President; and Ellen Andrus, Commercial Exhibits from the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Association (www.sarodeo.com) came out to enlighten us as to the procedures for getting hired to perform at rodeo events plus other stock show and rodeo facts. Afterwards, folks hung out to participate in a TMC open mic. Bidding was later conducted among TMC members for two Rodeo Season Passes to the grounds for this year’s stock show and rodeo, donated to TMC by the S.A. Stock Show and Rodeo, with the winner being Mary Dahlman.

NEW PHOTOS ADDED! 8th Annual Meet & Greet - June 24, 2007 - Candlelight Coffeehouse Despite a drenching thunderstorm that caused a temporary halt early on to TMC’s 8th annual Meet & Greet in the courtyard at Candlelight Coffee House & Wine Bar, attendees kept coming out and, eventually, so did the sun!
And once it did, our MC/DJ Joe Barfield (aka: Joe Joe Jelly Roll of KSYM Third Coast Music fame) kept the music rolling, with the able assistance of Paul “Red” Dvorak. Many new faces and old were seen and a great variety of music from local folks was heard throughout the evening.
A big TMC "Thank You" to Joe and Paul, to Nikki Young, organizer of this event, and to helpers: Lee Hurtado (now officially known as “Balloon Whisperer”); Joe Wolf (armed with special TMC name tags); Sheree Flood (producer of the new TMC directories); Patrice Villastrigo, Nancy Thomas, Race Villarreal, Dave Bloom and Carol Sowa.
Announcement of the TMC Jack Skiles Music Studies Scholarship winner had to be postponed to our July event, due to candidates who were present when the deluge hit having been given the OK to leave, since it first appeared the Meet & Greet that night would have to be canceled.

Joan Carroll Vocal Workshop at Sam Ash Music - March 20, 2007 Accomplished jazz vocalist Joan Carroll presented a free vocal workshop for TMC on Tuesday, March 20, at Sam Ash Music, 25 NE Loop 410. Joan has been singing professionally since 1985, singing with Footprints, Gerry Gibbs and his Thrasher Big Band, and the Paul Elizondo Big Band. She has played the Texas jazz Festival, the JazzS’Alive Festival, and Musical Offerings Jazz Meets Classical XIII Concert in San Antonio. She also hosts “The Jazz Voice,” weekly radio program on KRTU (FM 91.7) Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thank you, Joan!

Status of Radio Today Panel - July 2006 - The Cove TMC’s Tuesday, July 18, panel at The Cove covered a variety of topics relating to the radio industry, from careers in radio to getting your PSAs aired. Networking time for this free event started at 6:30 p.m., with the panel at 7 p.m.
Panelists included Producer Kelley Kendall of KISS, Community Service Representative Virginia Lovelady of KZEP, and Sales Representative Milton Gluek of KLUP, who shared their knowledge and experiences with attendees.

Meet-n-Greet - June 2006 - Blue Cactus Cafe TMC's 7th annual Meet & Greet took place Sunday, June 25, 6 p.m., at The Blue Cactus Cafe at Wetmore Store, 13525 Wetmore Rd. This event was an opportunity for bands, performing artists and songwriters to bring CDs/cassettes of their music to be played by our special guest DJ, Mike Roberts of Magic105.3, for the music industry folks in attendance. TMC members were also able to pick up their brand new TMC Membership Directories for 2006-2007 that night.
Adam Carrillo, a jazz saxophonist/composer from O’Connor High School, was announced as winner of the $500 TMC Jack Skiles Music Studies Scholarship and received a year’s free membership in TMC. Tyler Phillips, a composer/multi-instrumentalist from North East School of the Arts, placed second and also received a free membership.
