Texas Music Month
SEPT. 27 - TEXAS MUSIC MONTH PROCLAMATIONS
Mayor Ed Garza will issue a proclamation announcing October as Texas Music Month, on Thursday, September 27th, at 9 a.m. The ceremony will take place at City Hall in the first floor Media Briefing Room. (City Hall is on Military Plaza --- Navarro between the Spanish Governors Palace and the rear of San Fernando Cathedral.) All TMC members and Board Members are urged to attend this event and get in the photo that will be taken with the Mayor. (PLAN TO ARRIVE EARLY AND NOTE CHANGE IN TIME AND LOCATION FROM PREVIOUSLY.)
Governor Rick Perry will also be signing a proclamation announcing Texas Music Month and Casey Monahan, Director of the Texas Music Office in Austin, will be sending us that proclamation.

Details are still being firmed up, but an early preview of the Texas Music Coalitions five events for Texas Music Month in October includes the following:
Tuesday, Oct. 2, 7 p.m. - PUBLICITY & PROMOTION: PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER. (Chair: Carol Sowa) This panel will be held on the patio at Chuy's, 7959 Broadway in The Collection shopping center, telephone - 930-6775. Publicist Deb Doyle will serve as moderator and panelists include Ramiro Burr and Jim Beal of the Express-News, Wiley Alexander of Country Music Express, Janet Walden of Blue Cobra Music, Mattson Rainer of KNBT-FM in New Braunfels, Michael Hernandez of KLEY-FM, and Casey Monahan, Director of the Texas Music Office in Austin.
Tuesday, Oct. 9, 7 p.m. - MUSIC MARKETING ON THE INTERNET. (Chair: Donna Baxter) Chris Madrid's, 1900 Blanco, telephone - 735-3552, will be the site of this panel. Our Internet panel was standing room only last year, and we expect it to be a popular event this year too, as more and more people are hopping aboard the Internet these days. Panelists to be announced.
Tuesday, Oct. 16, 7 p.m. - SONGWRITING TIPS FROM THE PROS. (Chair: Joe Velasquez) Award-winning songwriter Joe Velasquez will serve as moderator for a line-up of songwriting pros with lots to share. Panelists include Eric Friedland of Los #3 Dinners, Laura Bell of the Blue Aces, Mitchell Webb of The Swindles, Geronimo Trevino and Jimmy Spacek. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 7 p.m. - LEGAL ASPECTS OF THE MUSIC BIZ. (Chair: Sarah Daniel) Learn about protecting your rights and your music. Panelists will include attorney Steven Rogers of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld and Fred Weiss, publisher and Radio/TV/Film professor at San Antonio College, plus others knowledgeable in the legal end of the music business. Sarah Daniel, local Reggae music promoter, will serve as moderator. Location will be the Cadillac Bar at 212 S. Flores, telephone - 223-5533.
Sunday, Oct. 28, 4 p.m. - TMC COSTUME FUNDRAISER DINNER. (Fundraising Chair: Lisa Anderson) TMC will be selling tickets for $10.00 at all Texas Music Month events to an Italian dinner at Carlsbad Tavern, 11407 West Avenue, telephone - 341-0716. Come in costume for this pre-Halloween event and prepare to be entertained by top area bands! The dinner will run from 4 to 7 p.m.; the entertainment will continue till closing. Help support the Texas Music Coalition in its goals of encouraging the growth of the local music industry through educational and performance opportunities.
