TMC MEET & GREET ATTENDEES PACK CASA CHIAPAS JUNE 29

Posted 2008-07-03

The Texas Music Coalition had a full house (that spilled over onto the big, shady front porch) for their 9th Annual TMC Meet & Greet on Sunday, June 29, at Casa Chiapas in Southtown.

Joe Barfield of KSYM Radio and the San Antonio Music, Art and Culinary Events Calendar served as DJ/Host for this event, playing tons of recorded music by area talents who dropped in to get their music heard – so many that a cap had to be placed early on as to how many songs could be played.

The winner of the $500 TMC Jack Skiles Music Studies Scholarship was announced that night as Aaron Carter-Cohn, with Roxanna Tehrani being named runner up. (See story below.) A host of talented scholarship applicants, students ranging from high school to grad school, were also awarded certificates of participation.

A highlight of the evening was hearing several recordings by the late Jack Skiles, the master guitarist/entertainer and longtime TMC member for whom the TMC scholarship is named.

Music folks from a variety of genres and fields stopped in to listen to the music, greet old friends and make new ones in the pleasant ambience of Casa Chiapas at 928 S. Alamo, while enjoying selections from the tasty food and beverage menu.

Our thanks to Meet & Greet/Scholarship Chair Nikki Young of PrimaDonna Productions for planning this super event (assisted by Chadd Green and Lee Hurtado), Eddie Martinez of Casa Chiapas for making his “casa” our “casa” that evening, Joe Barfield for his entertaining emceeing, Joe Wolf for providing the special TMC name tags, and Daryl Archuleta and Dwayne Feuerbacher of Confusing Minerva for providing and running their excellent sound equipment, which is available for renting out.

Thanks also go out to our wonderful entry table volunteers, who admirably handled all we had going on, including the initial balloting for “TMC Artist of the Year” and distributing copies of the brand new TMC Membership Directory, put together for us by Betsy Dvorak. Our busy entry table helpers included: Oscar Laun, Joe Wolf, Lee Hurtado, Laura Marie, Paul “Red” Dvorak, Quinn Dixon and Maria Larson, headed by Carol Sowa.
